Steve Palumbo: Teemu Selanne Staying? Bobby Ryan Going? - Steve Palumbo
If Ryan was traded, what are the "two or three building blocks."
Would they be defensemen or forwards, and what type of each?
I would assume that Anaheim needs a young top-six forward to somewhat replace his output, especially since Selanne and Koivu aren't getting any younger. So they will soon need a guy to step into Koivu and/or Selanne's shoes. |

Duchene + Mueller/Jones + Barrie + 2nd
for
Ryan & Holland
If they want to win now then Mueller or Jones don't exactly replace Ryan but add Duchene to that plus some combination of picks & prospects and it would be a fair bet that it would improve the roster now and in the future.
At some point Etem & Palmieri with Duchene in the middle could be a potent mix as a second line.
That would also allow ANA to focus more on which defender they want at #6 in the draft. |

Ryan for Jordan Staal.....6th pick overall this year, 1st pick next year and Kyle Palmieri for his brother Mark......Remember what happened last time the Ducks had two brothers playing for the same team......anything short of that and I'll hate Murray for life if he trades away Bobby

Most ANA fans problems with trading for Staal is his lack of a contract beyond the 2012/13 season. |

This is the closest trade yet I've seen that would be hard to say no to. I'd take Mueller. Getzlaf-Perry-Mueller wouldn't be too bad of a first line. Throw in Hunwick and keep Barrie and the pick and that would be a done deal. |

What he said. Plus I hear he's asking for $6.5 mil per. that would throw the Getzlaf-Perry negotiations way out of whack. |

I honestly didn't think there was anyone out there that noticed Hunwick's improvement at the end of last season.
Surprising but yeah totally Accepted.
The nice thing about Mueller & Duchene is that they have chemistry together. They would need a forward like DSP (Powerforward type) on their line if that was used though.
Holland would step into a pretty good sittuation with McGinn on his left and Jones on his right next season. And with Stastny & O'Reilly he wouldn't be under tremendous pressure to be lights out in his first year. |

Steve, Teemu coming back has been the worst kept "secret" in Anaheim for the past month. |

Mostly what happened is Landeskog and not really Landeskog by himself but the combination of O'Reilly & Landeskog together.
Those two basically took over the team when it comes work ethic and a complete 200ft game every night.
In this case Stastny has proven chemistry with Ryan and the fact that Parise could hit the market does not hurt the whole idea of making a trade like that.
I honestly think that the Avs like the two-way/fore-checking game that having Stastny & O'Reilly down the middle bring. I know there is a lot of talk bashing Stastny but hes very versitile as far as who he can play with and be effective. His assist totals dropped during a rebuilding period but that's understandable.
He has also shown a resurgence at the end of last year and in the Worlds that proves when hes given legit talent on his wing he can return to being closer to a PPG center while giving you a complete 200ft game.
Our system has changed a bit from a run and gun to more of a possession/forecheck game. As much as Avs fans don't want to admit it. Stastny's lack of value due to his contract but his versatility at the same time combined with O'Reilly & Landeskog kind of edge Duchene out.
The emergence of Landeskog as a fan favorite also makes it easier to move a young center like Duchene and not reap nearly as much backlash from the fan base as long as the player coming back is fairly significant.
Besides even the possibility of Parise - Stastny - Ryan in a market that already has a huge amount of Olympic buzz with Colorado Springs being the center of USA Olympics. That combination would seriously apeal to the business side of things to and would be an absolute PR dream for an organization that resides in the heart of the country.
That's just my take anyways..
(I wouldn't exactly say Duchene's name is being thrown around either. Our center depth and holes else where in the roster give some weight to the discussion. Duchene is the most valuable chip we have that we could part with without gutting the team. Kind of like Ryan is with ANA.) |

Duchene > Ryan - jonathonpeddle
Not yet..
And Stastny & Ryan together > Duchene
Just like Landeskog & O'Reilly are > Duchene
See my point? Creating a dominant team and maximizing the TEAMs talent level and chemistry is > the single coveted center.
Kind of interesting how because of each teams roster Ryan & Duchene end up on a island by themselves. In Ryan's case it's a lack of center depth in ANA and in Duchene's case it's a lack of winger depth in COL.
Guess what? Colorado has young centers in the minors for the future and ANA has young wingers in the minors for the future as well.
Hmmm, Interesting huh? |
